First Look Scouting

Even though The Atrium is a gorgeous spot for pictures, I knew from the get-go that I wanted a different setting for our first look.

Thankfully, there are two state parks 15 minutes or so from The Atrium - McConnell's Mill and Moraine State Park.

After our tasting on Monday with Medure's, Dude and I scoped out McConnell's Mill as a potential first look spot.

At McConnell's Mill (prepare to be shocked) there is an old mill sitting next to a small waterfall and surrounded by gorgeous woods.  As soon as we got out of the car, I saw this spot that leads down close to the waterfall.

What do you think?  Dude waiting down there, facing the waterfall, I'll walk up behind him?  Bonus, there is a wooden door here, covered with hearts and initials.  We could totally carve our names into that door with our wedding date!

Oh and here's the waterfall close up.

Pretty neat, huh?

There's another little alcove on the other side, closer to the waterfall.

I'm the dark blob in the corner in case you can't tell!

I guess these waters are more treacherous than they look because all around this area are life raft rings (I know there has to be a better word for these).

Right next to the mill, there's this super cool covered bridge that I think would be great for either a first look, wedding party shots, or both.

Of course, there's also a lot of wide open space surrounding this area where we could take our running from zombies photo!

Oh and look what we saw while we were there - people ice climbing!!  Can you see the guy with the orange helmet in the center of the picture, between the two trees?

I was embarassingly excited about seeing these guys.  I was screaming "WOW THAT IS SO COOL!!" over and over until Dude shushed me.

But seriously, so cool, right???

We didn't have time to check our Moraine, so we'll have to do that on another day, but McConnell's Mill is definitely a contender for our first look spot!!

What do you guys think?  Which spot at McConnell's Mill do you think would be the best for our first look?  Have you ever been ice climbing?

Tasty Tasting

On Monday, Dude and I took a half day at work and got a ton of stuff crossed off our ginormous to-do list.  The first of which was our tasting and final menu decisions for the reception and cocktail hour.

We scheduled our tasting with the preferred caterer for The Atrium - Medure's Catering - with plans to schedule tastings with additional caterers if that didn't go well or we couldn't find anything we liked.

My initial call with Kristen at Medure's went well, but honestly, we had no clue what we wanted or what we wanted to taste.  So I left it up to her and here's what we walked in to on Monday (all photos personal unless otherwise noted):

On our dinner plates we had:  sauteed green beans, roasted red and sweet potatoes, eggplant rollitini, and breaded chicken (there was a fancy name for this but I don't remember it).

I mentioned to Kristen that we enjoyed sushi and the chef whipped us up a couple options we could potentially serve at our cocktail hour.

Here was my plate after:

Can you tell I enjoyed everything??

Dude and I both loved the potatoes and the eggplant rollitini so those were on our menu without a second thought.

We also decided almost immediately that with the size of our wedding,a double-sided buffet would be the best way for every guest to get hot food.  I was fine with that, since they'll serve the salads and have bread on the table.

I can't tell you how many weddings I've been to where I'm practically knocking over grandmas to get to the buffet because there was no bread on the table for me to eat while waiting for my table to be called.

We decided on chicken marsala and roast beef in au jus for our main entrees on the buffet, along with a squash medley, the potatoes and the rollatini.  I am so ridiculously excited for those rollatini!  They're a great side, and a great entree for the couple of vegetarians we'll have at the wedding.

After we figured out dinner, we circled back and decided on the apps (not even going to attempt to spell the h-word) for our cocktail hour.

I saw these awesome chicken and waffle bites while perusing Pinterest the other day and I was immediately sold.

I asked if they could do something like that and Kristen was totally onboard.  So those are in.  In addition, we're having bacon-wrapped artichoke hearts with a cheese fondue, a meat/cheese/cracker display, and a fruit skewers with a caramel dipping sauce.

Can you say YUM!!!

So all in all, the tasting was a total success and we are definitely going with Medures!

How was your tasting with your caterer?  Was there anything you loved, stuff you hated?  Did you already have your menu picked out before you went?

T25 STAT-urday: Week 1

Well my lovelies, not much of a change this first week of T25.  I'll tell you what though - it freaking SUCKS working out 6 days a week!!

You know those people that just love to work out?  They say they feel bad if they miss a day, they say they get an endorphin rush afterwards?  I will never be one of those people.  Ever.  It is a struggle for me to put the flipping DVD in every. single. day.

Enough of my whining...let's get to my stats.

I am down half a pound - YAY!  But no significant changes in my measurements.

Weight:  127.5lbs
Chest:  36in
Waist:  25in
Hips:  36in
Thighs:  20.5in
Arms:  11in

How'd you do this week?

Thank You for Being a Friend: Parental Edition

I shared with you what I’m getting for my bridesmaids, but that’s not the end of our gift giving.  We still have to thank our parents.

Moms, Dads, you know what that means!  Get outta here!

Thank You for Being a Friend: Bridesmaid Edition

One thing has been occupying the main part of my brain, and my Pinterest searches, for the better part of two weeks – thank you gifts.

I told Dude I would handle buying the gifts for my girls, the ring bearer and flower girl, and our parents.  He’s in charge of getting gifts for his guys, but if he slacks in this department, I may have to help him.

Before I go any further, Doeblerghini wedding party – unless you want to be spoiled, you better scoot!

Sweating for the Wedding

Like pretty much every bride ever, I’ve been working out more consistently in the months leading up to our wedding.  If my generalization doesn’t apply to you, just skip this post – you lucky beeotch!

My goal isn’t really to lose weight; it’s more to tone up.  Specifically my arms and my legs.   …And my butt, and my stomach, and…

But, let’s be real, if I happen to lose 10 pounds in the process, I’m not going to be overly disappointed.

My body type is what I would call skinny fat – I’m not overweight by any means, but I definitely can’t rock a bikini like I used to.

So, starting next week, I’m putting myself back on a Clean Eating diet and starting T25.   And as further motivation, I also bought myself a kickass pair of neon pink Merrell running shoes.

In an effort to keep me honest and from giving up halfway through the series like I normally would, I’m posting my before picture and stats; and I’ll update you weekly on my progress.

T25 is a 10-week program, so hopefully by the time I’m done with it, it’ll be warm enough to get back outside and re-start the Couch to 5K program.

I guess I’ve put it off long enough – here’s my before picture and stats.

Personal Photo, sorry for the creepy look in my eyes and the half duck lips...

Weight:  128lbs
Chest:  36in
Waist:  25in
Hips:  36in
Thighs:  20.5in
Arms:  11in

Feel free to join me in my quest to get fitter before the wedding.  We can be workout buddies!  I’ll motivate you when you don’t want to do anything and you motivate me when all I want to do is eat brownies!

Anyone else out there doing T25?  What do you think of it?  Do you have weight-loss goals for your wedding day?

Sprinkle Spangles

Anyone else remember that cereal?  I vividly remember my Mom wouldn't let me have it but I ended up trying a bowl at a friend's house and it was phenomenal to my 8-year-old palate.

Do yourself a favor and skip Googling them, otherwise you will go down this rabbit hole of awesome breakfast cereal from when you were a kid like Hidden Treasures, Rice Krispy Treats, Oreo-Os...

Doeblerghini Bunch: Sprinkle Spangles

So anyways... I’ve already told you about my sprinkle habit and our sprinkle wedding cake.

Well…you didn’t think I’d be ok with having our baker pick out the sprinkles for our wedding cake did you??  Of course you didn’t, because that would be silly.  Why would you let the person you are paying to make your cake handle the decorating??

Needless to say, last week, Dude and I spent $20 on “test” sprinkles.

We bought:
Doeblerghini Bunch: Silver Sprinkles

Doeblerghini Bunch: Neon Confetti

Doeblerghini Bunch: Primary Colors Confetti

Not going to lie, I was positively gleeful as I was buying all these!  I was grinning like a maniac and I kept saying to myself “I can’t believe Dude is ok with me doing this!!”

It was a torturous 6 days before they all arrived, but yesterday the last pack (lime green latecomer) arrived, so I promptly forgot about working out and walking the dogs and making dinner and sat down to play with all our new candy.

Here’s what we came up with!

I think the confetti mix is the winner, what do you guys think?

Dude is worried the bright colors will make our cake look like a kids toy instead of the pretty wedding cake we’re imagining.  I think there’s no way, but what do you think?

Do I need to buy more sprinkles??

Creating a Custom Wedding Website Using Blogger: Part 1

I just realized that in all the excitement of showing you our Save the Dates, I never mentioned our wedding website.

I spent an entire night (and let’s be real, a good part of my work day) looking into pre-made wedding websites.  You know, the ones where you plug in your information, upload a few pictures and you’re done.  And honestly, what a let down!  Most are so girly and fru-fru that it almost hurt my eyes.

None of them really fit with our personalities or the feel we wanted for our wedding, so I kind of resigned myself to creating one from scratch.

Before I get into my tutorial, I want to make sure you guys are aware that I am, by no means, a web designer.  I had an Angelfire website when I was in high school, I binge-watched The IT Crowd on Netflix last year, and that’s about as far as my web skillz go.

Ok, and I set up this blog but if my Mom can set up a blog, anyone can do it.

I’m going to explain as best I can how I set up our website after the cut.  This is gonna be a long one, so grab some coffee and some snacks.
